Can someone without a mobile phone be in a group?

cc:Sync is a mobile service and we believe that the fastest way to reach your group now and in the future is on their mobile phone. However we do provide an email option since many Blackberry users prefer to use email instead of text messaging. Anyone can change their preferences to email from text (mobile) messaging once they are signed up so it’s possible to use cc:Sync without a mobile phone, but right now we still require one to sign up.

If you choose to receive your messages via email instead of text you can make this choice on the Web by going to Settings.

Section 1

How much does it cost to be a group member?

How much does it cost to be a group organizer?

During the beta test the service is free. After its commercial launch, cc:Sync will charge a monthly subscription fee to form and manage groups. The rates have not yet been set and cc:Sync will notify all beta subscribers when pricing and timing of the commercial launch are finalized.

How long will the Beta last?

We are currently planning to run the beta through January 2010. We will notify all beta subscribers at least a month before the beta ends.

Who can I talk to about the Beta?

Everyone! We are making more beta accounts available every week. If you know of anyone that would be interested in the service they can contact us at beta@ccSync.com or sign up on our Web site.

Why do I get messages for different groups from different phone numbers?

Every group has its own number on your phone so each conversation is kept together in one convenient place. We do this so you won't have to add a different "key word" to every message for every group you belong to.

What is a Unique Group Connector Number?

The number you use to text a particular group (and the number you receive that groups texts' from) is called Unique Group Connector Number. When you are added to a group, cc:Sync automatically generates this number and sends it to your phone. This number will remain the same as long as you are a member of the group.

The easiest way to message the group is to save this number in your mobile directory and label it with the group name. That way incoming messages will ID with that label making it easy to see group messages as they arrive.

If you choose to message the group using email, the group’s email address will be made by adding '@ccsync.cc' to the end of the unique group connector number to, e.g. '15553334444@ccSync.cc'.

How does cc:Sync authenticate messages?

All group messages are private to that group. Only group members can send and receive group messages. To ensure privacy and authenticate each message, a Unique Group Connector Number is specific to each group member. When you are added to a team, cc:Sync generates and sends this number to you. If you were to use the number on another phone, cc:Sync would block the message. cc:Sync carefully checks each message sent to the group to be sure it is from a properly authenticated member.
